前段 -The first part-

オーナーの夫の知花竜海です。私はミュージシャンで、20年くらい音楽の仕事をしてきました。私達は元々高校の同級生で、若く夢を追いかけるフェーズ、子どもが出来て家庭を守るフェーズ、ずっと夫婦で力を合わせて乗り越えてきました。40歳を機にここからの人生後半戦は「妻の夢を実現するフェーズ」に入ろうと考えました。

My name is Tatsumi Chibana.I am the owner’s husband of Chion House. I’m a musician and I’ve been working in music for about 20 years. We were originally high school classmates, and we worked together as a couple to overcome the phases of being young and pursuing our dreams, and having children and keeping a family. At the age of 40, I thought that the second half of my life would be a phase of realizing my wife’s dream.

妻は元々保育士の仕事をしていましたが、末っ子の地音（チオン）が幼稚園になるのをきっかけに、自宅で子育てをしながら出来る仕事をしたいということに。初めは雑貨屋を構想していましたが、お店の外装や内装を考えて色々調べているうちにモザイクタイルやアースバッグ工法に興味を持ちました。

まずは一度実際に家族で泊まってみようということになり、私たち家族5人は熊本のアースバッグハウスの宿泊施設「のんねむ」に泊まりに行きました。実際に見るアースバッグハウス はとても可愛く、妻はビビビっと一目惚れ！いたく感動し「これを作りたい！」と言い出しました。僕はその時点ではまさか本当に自分が建てれるとは思ってもみませんでしたが、実際にその家を建てた合同会社土芸さんの話を聞く中で具体的なアイディアが湧き「これならいけるかも」と思い始めました。決め手になったのは末っ子の地音です。地音はククの家をとても気に入り大喜び。「ここはチオンの家だよ！」と何度も言っていて、帰る時には「帰りたくない！ここはチオンの家だよー！」と大泣きしました。それが最後の一押しとなって「じゃあ、、チオンの家を作ろうか！」と決意し、チオンと土芸さんと約束して沖縄に帰ってきました。

My wife used to work as a childcare worker, but when our youngest child, Chion, started kindergarten, she decided she wanted to do something she could do while raising children at home. At first, I had an idea of a general store, but after thinking about the exterior and interior of the store and researching various things, I became interested in mosaic tiles and the earth bag method.

First of all, we decided to actually stay there with our family, and our family of five went to stay at “Nonnemu,” an accommodation facility at Earth Bag House in Kumamoto. The earth bag house I actually saw was so cute that my wife fell in love with it at first sight. I was so moved that I said, “I want to make this!.” At that point, I had no idea that I would actually be able to build the house, but after listening to the story of Dogei GK, the company that actually built the house, I came up with a concrete idea and started thinking, “Maybe I can do this.” The deciding factor was my youngest son’s sound. Chion is very pleased with Kuk’s house. She kept saying, “This is Chion’s house!” and when he left, he cried out, “I don’t want to go home! THIS IS CHION’S HOUSE!.” That was my final push and I decided to “Well, let’s make a house for Thion!” I promised Chion and Dogei and returned to Okinawa.

2019～2020

そこからは実現に向けてとにかく奔走しました。事業計画、設計、資金調達、申請関係、手配関係、全て未経験かつ前例のないことだったので、色んな苦労がありましたが、なんとか着工にこぎつけることが出来ました。

工事期間にはアースバッグ建築の経験者と、新たに習いたい人たちが全国から集まって、うちに住み込みで共同生活をしながら建てました。多いときは10人くらい、通いの人も含めると延べで30人くらいの人が参加しました。

はじめはどんな人たちが来るのか不安でしたが、幸い、みんな真面目で優しくて面白い生き方をしている個性的な人たちが集まってくれました。夜は子供達と一緒にゲームをしたり、宿題を見てくれたり、休みの日にはお出かけしたり家族のように過ごしました。一緒に暮らし、みんなで作り上げた思い入れも相まって、より一層自分達の中での価値が増しました。子ども達にとっても色んな生き方の大人を間近で見れて刺激的だったと思います。
全く想定外だったのはコロナです。2020年2月に着工して2ヶ月ほどでコロナ禍に突入し、工事も一旦ストップし、再開の目処が立たないまま不安な数ヶ月を過ごしました。躯体だけは立ち上がったところだったので、なんとか態勢を立て直し、半年後に工事を再開。左官やタイル装飾を経て2021年2月に建物を完成させることが出来ました。アースバッグチームが解散した後は、内装や電気工事、造園などの業者の皆さんに入ってもらい実際に住める状態を作っていきました。その間、子供達の学校は休校になったり、コロナでオープンのめどが立たなかったこともあって、私たちは家族5人でチオンの家に住みました。住んでみたことで改善点などが見え、細かいクオリティーの改善に時間を使うことが出来ました。

From there, we worked hard to make it happen. The business plan, the design, the financing, the application and the arrangement were all unexperienced and unprecedented, so there were various difficulties, but we managed to start the construction.

During the construction period, people with experience in earth bag construction and people who wanted to learn new techniques gathered from all over the country to live in our house and live together. About 10 people participated at the most, and about 30 people in total including commuters.

At first, I was worried about what kind of people would come, but fortunately, all of them were serious, kind, and unique people with interesting lives. We played games with the kids at night, they looked at our homework, and we went out on our days off, just like a family. Together with the feelings we have built up together, we have become even more valuable to ourselves. I think it was exciting for the children to be able to see adults in various ways up close. 

What was completely unexpected was COVID-19. About 2 months after the start of construction in February 2020, pandemic hit, and construction was temporarily halted, and we spent several anxious months with no prospect of resuming construction. The building frame had just been erected, so the company managed to rebuild itself and resumed construction six months later. After plastering and tile decorating, the building was completed in February 2021. After the earthbag team was disbanded, we had interior decorating, electrical work, and landscaping contractors join us to create a living environment. During that time, our children’s school was closed and there was no prospect of opening due to COVID-19, so our family of five lived in a house in Chion. After living there, I could see improvement points, and I was able to spend time to improve the detailed quality.

2021～2024

関わったメンバーに泊まってもらったシミュレーション期間から始まり、プレオープン、本オープン、一周年と、めまぐるしく過ぎていきます。国内外から色んなお客様達がチオンの家を訪れます。口コミで少しづつ少しづつ広がっています。三年がかりで作り上げたお庭が、台風でめちゃくちゃになったこともありました。それでも自然の回復力はたくましく、毎日新しい花が咲いてくれるのです。ここはチオンの家だよと喜んだあの日のチオンのように、あなたにとってもこの宿が特別な思い出になりますように。そう願って私たちは今日も家と庭を育てています。

It starts from the simulation period where the members who were involved stayed, and it goes by quickly from the pre-opening, the main opening, and the first anniversary. Various guests from Japan and overseas visit the house of Chion. It is spreading little by little by word of mouth. There was a time when the garden that I had built for 3 years was ruined by a typhoon. But nature’s resilience is strong, and new flowers bloom every day. May this inn become a special memory for you, just like Chion that day when he rejoiced that this was his home. We are still growing our house and garden with that hope.
